October’s been a busy month for me, and that agenda has included being a guest on some fantastic podcasts you should check out to help get into that holiday spirit:

First off, we have Tracks of the Damned, a podcast of horror film commentary tracks hosted by Director’s Club alum Patrick Ripoll.  Patrick is making commentary tracks on the Scream series for the month of October, and you can hear me on the Scream 3 episode, which also includes a rambling discussion sparked by a listener’s question about women in horror.

I’m also featured on Film Jive’s Halloween special, Soundtrack of Terror Vol. 2, a compilation of mini audio essays on favorite music from horror film.  My contribution was on “Through the Trees” by Low Shoulder from Jennifer’s Body.  Thanks to Zach, Simone, and Andrew for inviting me back, after including my piece on Night of the Hunter on Soundtrack of Terror Vol. 1.

And last but certainly not least, I was happy to be back on Creepypodsta, the creepypasta podcast hosted by Jeff Kowalski.  Louisa Herron and I discuss the first episode of SyFy’s Channel Zero, based on Candle Cove, the creepypasta that the three of us discussed on the podcast’s very first episode.  The episode drops on November 3, so keep your eye on that space.  Jeff and Louisa also cohost the podcast Seeing Red(dit).

Have a safe and happy Halloween, everyone!

Admittedly this is veering away from the blog’s topic, but– aw shucks, it’s [the week of] Halloween, ain’t it?!

My friend Jeff had the great idea for a panel discussion podcast about creepypastas, and an even better idea to have me and our friend Louisa as guest panelists.  On the maiden voyage, we talk about Candle Cove, one of the best known creepypasta.

Check out the podcast, as well as Jeff’s other creative projects, at weaponizedlanguage.com.

Director’s Club Podcast is going on hiatus, but not before putting out a series of bonus episodes over the next few months.  The topics are requests from listeners who donated $50 or more to the production of Most Likely by Bang! Films, an independent romantic comedy featuring the acting talents of my bff Jess Conger.  (You can’t fight synergy, Lemon.  It’s bigger than us all.)

I was a guest commentator on the first of this series of bonus episodes, in which Patrick and I talk about Martin Scorcese’s divisive thrillers Cape Fear (1991) and Shutter Island (2010).

Listen to the episode here, or download it from the iTunes store.

Film Jive podcast’s Halloween special is a collection of film podcasters, bloggers, and horror authors talking about their favorite music featured in horror movies.  I was very flattered to be asked to submit a segment, and have my two cents included among some really smart, savvy film geeks.

You’ll have to check out the podcast to find out what piece of music and film I chose, but I will divulge that the film’s director was a fat man and film legend in his own right.  (No, not him.)

Link: Director’s Club Podcast Episode #79: Wes Anderson

I was pleased and honored to be asked back as a guest for the 79th episode of Director’s Club, where we discussed the works of one of my favorite directors, Wes Anderson.  I also got a chance to talk with the guys about Concussion (see my previous post) and The One I Love,  and Jim reviews Resolution. In honor of Bisexual Awareness Week, I profess my profound attraction to both Robin Weigert and Jason Schwartzman.

Check it out!

If you can’t get enough of our Y Tu Mama Tambien-esque dynamic, I was also the guest on the Richard Linklater episode.
